Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)

CITES is the international convention that regulates the global trade in endangered species. With over 180 Parties having signed on since 1975, the convention has nearly universal coverage. The aim of the convention is to ensure that wildlife trade does not pose a threat to wild populations of plants and animals. In this light, all signatories to the convention engaged in trading listed species must submit non-detriment findings to CITES. Find further information about CITES and our seahorse non-detriment findings framework here.

iSeahorse

iSeahorse is a tool for seahorse science and conservation. iSeahorse harnesses the power of ‘community scientists’ — anyone, anywhere in the world who sees a seahorse in the wild — to improve our understanding of seahorses and protect them from overfishing and other threats. Whether you’re a diver, a fisher, a scientist, a seahorse enthusiast, or just on a beach holiday, you can upload your photos and observations to iSeahorse. You can help identify seahorse species. You can advocate for their protection in your ocean neighbourhood. We're also looking for people to help monitor wild seahorse populations and seahorse landings at ports.

Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF)

GBIF provides a single point of access (through this portal and its web services) to more than 2 billion records, shared freely by hundreds of institutions worldwide, making it the biggest biodiversity database on the Internet.

California Academy of Science Catalog of Fishes

The Catalog of Fishes is the authoritative reference for taxonomic fish names, featuring a searchable on-line database.

Encyclopedia of Life (EOL)

The Encyclopedia of Life (EOL) is a free, online collaborative encyclopedia intended to document all of the 1.9 million living species known to science. It is compiled from existing databases and from contributions by experts and non-experts throughout the world. It aims to build one "infinitely expandable" page for each species, including video, sound, images, graphics, as well as text.
